History of the Mercedes 300SL Roadster
The Mercedes-Benz SL-class is a grand tourer built since 1954 by Mercedes-Benz. The designation SL is derived from the German Sport Leicht (Sport Lightweight) and was first applied to the epic 300SL, also called the ' Gullwing ', because of the upward opening wing doors. The model was mainly used for racing in the early years, but has changed considerably over the years. The car changed from a real sports car to a sporty convertible.
